Surgery

Mt Lawley and Inglewood Vet has purpose-built sterile surgical theatres equipped with state-of-the-art anaesthetic machines and monitoring equipment. Our veterinarians are experienced in performing routine speys and neutering surgeries, lump removals, wound debridement and repairs, as well as more complex intra-abdominal surgeries and orthopaedic surgeries such as cranial cruciate ligament repair, simple fracture repair and excision arthroplasty. Our animal hospital uses the same high-quality non-absorbable and absorbable suture materials employed by surgeons in human hospitals.

Our surgery is equipped with safe isoflurane gas anaesthetic machines. We take pride in our state-of-the-art anaesthetic equipment and modern anaesthetic protocols. Prior to a general anaesthetic, each patient receives a thorough physical examination to identify any existing medical conditions that may increase anaesthetic risk. As not all problems can be detected by examination, our hospital offers a pre-anaesthetic blood test panel that can be performed on the same morning prior to the anaesthetic. This blood test panel acts as a general health screen and will not only give us a more complete picture of your pet’s health, but will also allow us to create an anaesthetic protocol tailored specifically for your pet. We especially recommend this blood test panel for dogs and cats over the age of 7 years that are undergoing any general anaesthetic and/or surgery.

Once the patient is anaesthetised, sophisticated monitoring equipment like our Surgivet monitors are hooked up to monitor the patients vital functions throughout the procedure. This includes a pulse oximeter that monitors the heart rate and oxygen levels in the blood, Doppler measurement of blood pressure, and a breathing monitor.
Pain management is high on our priority for all our pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative anaesthetic protocols. ALL surgical patients including ’routine procedures’ such as neutering and speys receive pain control medication.
